I wasn’t used to being in pain. My wife was though. For years, Sue had complained about her lower back pain which got to a point where it was unbearable. Then, I picked up a shoulder injury which turned into a long-term complaint too. We wanted to find a way to ease the pain. Although we’re both in our early thirties, we felt much older, struggling to deal with the crippling aches and pains.
Both of us were suffering in different ways. After a day’s work sat at a laptop, my shoulder was in agony. It was so painful. And worst of all, my golf handicap suffered!
Sue also worked at a desk for most of the day causing her no end of discomfort. She was being prescribed all kinds of strong painkillers by the docs, but she didn’t want to stay on these forever. So we tried some alternatives. We tried pretty much everything under the sun.
We gave each other massages and backrubs. These didn’t really do much to be honest. They were nice enough, but the pain was still there afterwards. We tried reflexology, acupuncture, visiting health spas, but still the pain persisted. We were out of pocket and driving to spas or going to see a professional masseuse was a drain on our time. We have three kids, so it was all getting too much after a while.
In fact, we were about to give up. Then, as fortune would have it, I bumped into an old buddy of mine, Francis, in the mall. He looked great. He had a spring in his step, and looked 10 years younger than his actual age of 35. He asked how I was. I told him about my shoulder and my wife’s bad back. Straight away he gave a knowing nod and said he’d felt our pain.
Francis explained that he’d had a traffic accident two years ago that had left him with whiplash and other serious injuries. He’d had to deal with crippling pain for months afterwards. He’d got to the point where he felt he’d tried everything and was on the point of giving up, but then he discovered something that works. He had bought a RELAXONCHAIR and said it was the best thing he’d ever done. He’d recently upgraded to a RELAXONCHAIR Mk IV. He said that massage chairs had given him his life back, you have to try one – so we did. In fact we did better than that, we tried several!
That fortunate meeting with my old buddy brought me to where my wife and I are today. Mobile, pain-free and living life happily again. It’s been such a huge change for the better and Sue and I are so grateful that we discovered these highly effective massage chairs.
After trying one in the mall, we decided there and then that we needed one. But we wanted to make sure we got the right one for us. It was such an important decision, as we recognized that this could give us our lives back. So we came up with a plan.
We shopped around and found 7 or 8 chairs that looked good and were in our price range. We then visited different stores that sold them and tried them out, not just once but over a period of days and weeks. By doing this, we narrowed it down the top 3 best massage chairs which we’ve reviewed below, listing the pros and cons of each and why we recommend them over others.
Ok, so the first up is the Zero Gravity Full-Body Kahuna which is an all-around high performer.
As it says in the title, it gives you a full body massage, right from your head down to your feet, even including your butt! The air massaging is very effective and you feel immersed in a comfort kneading and rolling sensation quite quickly. Very relaxing after a long day or week.
The yoga setting is awesome! It gives you a stretch as well as a massage, making it feel like you are doing some serious yoga moves on one of those gym balls.
I’m going to ask Sue to write the rest of this section as this was definitely her favorite chair:
Ok thanks Mike. I love this chair as it’s so good for my back. It’s no exaggeration to say it gave me a new lease of life. Of all the chairs I tried this was by far the best. My lower back pain is much more under control. As soon as I feel any tingles or twinges I get on the chair, set it to the yoga or chiro mode and within minutes I feel a wave of relief. I wish I’d found it years ago!
Overall an excellent massage chair that ticks all the boxes. The only slight downside is that the pre-programmed sessions are only 15 minutes long, so if you want a longer massage you have to keep resetting them, but this is a minor flaw. The yoga and chiro modes more than make up it in our opinion.
RELAXONCHAIR [MK-II PLUS] Full Body Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair with Built-In Heat and Air Massage System
Of all the chairs we have tried, this one has the most features and gives you great value for money.
The massage you get from this chair is very comfortable, gently massaging your muscles and joints, with a firm grip that makes you feel fully immersed. When I first tried it, I felt like I was floating away it felt so relaxing.
It helped with Sue’s back pain, but the real benefit was for my shoulders. The airbags that twist and stretch the shoulders felt so good. You can change the intensity to one of three different levels. This was great as sometimes I wanted a light massage when my shoulder was feeling a bit tender.
The other good thing about this chair is that the massages are customizable, so if you don’t fancy a foot massage you can turn that function off. This is ideal for me as sometimes I just want a quick shoulder and back rub, not a full body massage.
Overall, a great affordable chair that is packed with awesome features.
Ideal massage Full Featured Shiatsu Chair with Built in Heat Zero Gravity Positioning Deep Tissue Massage
This is the most affordable of the three chairs and offers good value for money overall. It doesn’t have as many features as the RELAXONCHAIR, but it does a pretty good job.
The massages are designed to feel like human hands and it auto-detects your body shape. It isn’t as firm as the other chairs, but it does a decent job. Sue found it quite effective on her lower back pain, but didn’t get the lasting effects of the Kahuna chair.
Having said that, most of the features are excellent. The heated massage works wonders. The airbags and speed of rollers are fully adjustable, so you can tailor your massage to suit your preferences. It stretches your back nicely and is a very relaxing experience. It also has a gentle vibration feature which helps with blood circulation.
This is a great chair if you’re on a budget, or this is your first massage chair and you just want to try it out to see how you get on with them.
You may have already guessed, but the one we decided to go for was the Kahuna chair with the yoga setting. The main reason we chose it over the others was the fact it was so effective on back pain and was also very relaxing. The best of both worlds!
The RELAXONCHAIR was also a great chair that offers so much value for money. It’s packed with features and is also good with back pain and helping you to relax.
Finally the Ideal Massage Shiatsu chair is a brilliant chair for the affordable price tag. It has many of the features of more expensive chairs, such as the heated option and vibration setting.
If you’re still unsure about which massage chair to go for our advice would be to give them a go, even if you’re skeptical. If you buy them online, most manufacturers offer a money back guarantee if you don’t like them, so there is little risk.
We’ve found massage chairs to be far better than going for a professional massage, as they are more targeted to your body, they detect your body shape and adapt to it really well. So, don’t miss out on the best massage of your life.
Good luck, and happy relaxing!
